I hate that we are now using P4 to compare who played tougher opponents. In the 80s and early 90s

there were plenty of really good teams that were not P5. It wasn't all money (just mostly) driven like it is today. Is JR's schedule tougher than Detmer's? Sure. But JR has never played a team like the Miami team that Detmer beat. Honestly nothing really close.

Ty Threw 28 interceptions his Heisman year. It's so hard to compare across eras, though. I'm not sure what the point is.

Completely different offenses. Ty Detmer also threw for 432 yards per game his Heisman winning season.
