Sleep is usually a disaster until after the 4-month progression for us
Well, not a disaster, but just very unpredictable. A swaddle helps for us--you can get ones with velcro to wrap them up. A little bit of white noise sometimes would help them connect their short sleep cycles. But to be honest what you're describing sounds very typical. It's just all over the place. Ours would sleep in a swing during the day. I know, I know...

Sleep training is brutal but stick with it. Dont raise kids that can’t sleep unless they are in bed with mom and dad.

We have four, and all four of ours were sleeping in 4-5 hour stretches within a week of getting home,
