close to the receiver is a relative element for a PI call, but its not required for a defensive holding call. I don't know if that DB held because he suddenly realized it was a trick play and he was about to get burned, but it was a hold. Anytime a receiver is into their route, excessive grabbing/holding by the defense that inhibits the ability of the receiver to run should be a defensive holding. I am sure there is a lot of incidental contact that teams get away with, but especially on a trick play like that one where the held receiver is our intended receiver refs shouldn't have missed that defensive holding.
