because BYU and Arod are far from the only coaches who who call those plays in those situations. In fact I bet Arod and most OC’s even learned those play calls from older and more experienced coaches or at coaching clinics and they use them for specific reasons.

At the very least you are vastly oversimplifying your analysis and don’t have access to a lot of information and factors that the coaches do.

I remember a commercial years ago where a fan criticizes a pro team for calling a draw play on third and long. Even the producer of that commercial understood that’s a nearly universal fan complaint across all football. And yet the guys who actually do the coaching seem to keep doing it.

Just maybe there are reasons casual TV watchers just don’t know about.
