I'm still ticked at the terribly embarrassing way he treated Detmer. Maybe Detmer had to go, but it has to be admitted he was made the fall guy for a lot of things that were not his fault. I heard that comment straight from the mouth of a famous former Cougar player still heavily involved with BYU football, a man who would certainly know. I would state his name, and you would all know it, but I don't have his permission to quote him.
Detmer was as much a part of BYU's football legacy as Lavell was. He deserved to be let go with at least a little bit of class, instead of being thrown out like some bum who had never done anything for BYU football.
Every now and then BYU makes a really boneheaded personnel move. The way they terminated Detmer was only matched in classlessness by the way they terminated Roger Reid. Kalani showed what kind of a person he was there and in all the postgame interviews where he claimed to accept full responsibility, but then threw other BYU coaches under the bus.
I don't respect him as a man or a coach and I wouldn't shake his hand. I support BYU football in spite of him. The sooner he is gone, the better.
