Unless you’d never stay there again, ask for 3 free nights
so that you can have a redo at the weekend they ruined. +/-90% chance they’ll go for it. They don’t want to take the risk of having to lawyer up and deal with the cost and hassle of a claim.

The family obviously didn’t think it was risk even though they knew it was damaged. They still chose to use the shower.
