In 2008 (the year before Sitake became defensive coordinator), Utah's total defense was ranked 11th in the nation, which was very good. Below are Utah's total defense rankings since Sitake became the DC.
2009 19th
2010 26th
2011 38th
2012 36th
2013 43rd (as of September 22)
Considering the rest of Utah's schedule, the total defense ranking for 2013 is likely to drop. Considerably.
The question that nobody seems to be able to answer (or maybe it's just too much of a bother) is: What does Coach Sitake have that outweighs the deterioration of Utah's defense suggested by the steady and significant decline in its total defense ranking? (Honest question. Not bashing. I like Sitake.)
