Root for whoever you want within reason (rooting for Duke if you're not from Durham or went there is evil) but I think

"we" is reserved for undergrad students of a particular school.

It is different if you were an undergrad somewhere than if you just root for them for some other reason.

There are tiers. Not "true fan" tiers, but it's different. If you grew up going to games with your grandpa who went there, by all means be a huge fan and supporter.
