Coaches promise a kid $100k to relocate to another school/city. Coaches say “we aren’t allowed to sign contracts, but trust me, you’ll get the money.”
He’s gotten $3,000 so far.
Who knows how much he turned down elsewhere? We don’t know! What we do know is he did play with the team through training camp and the first few games with the trust that the money he was promised would come. It never did, and he waited until the deadline to announce he his redshirting. That sounds like someone who was giving the other party plenty of time to uphold their end of their deal.
I don’t think all the hate he is getting online is deserved. I think he is a victim of a messed up system. NIL needs to be reworked with legit contracts, that way athletes aren’t burned by coaches who over promise and can’t deliver and coaches/schools have a written commitment.
