For the most part our recruiting has not improved under KS. It is getting better now that we are in a P4 and now that we have a better defensive coordinator, but still isn't good enough to be competitive in a P4.
His game time play calling has certainly been questionable. And we have regularly lost a game or two each year that we have no business losing.
His defense has been generally atrocious and the offense was only good with the combo of Grimes and Arod. By comparison, it doesn't matter who the D-coordinator is at Utah, their defense is always good. That tells me that their head coach is addative.
He doesn't bring discipline and accountability and even his supporters admit he isn't a "details guy".
So if he isn't improving recruiting, setting the tone, or making either side of the ball better, what is he doing?
What does he bring to the table that his coordinators do not already do?
2020 and 2021 were absolutely fun years; however, they were certainly an anomaly with COVID, plus we still had the Grimes trained o-line for both seasons. If we look at 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022 (i.e. the years where he had to recruit/train/coach the players) then he has been really mediocre. I don't think 2020 and 2021 should buy him grace moving forward because they are not indicative of the level of football we will be playing moving forward. They also do not provide enough evidence of his competence because there were so many strange variables those seasons.
