nearly every metric. We don't have a med school, and we aren't as focused on research as others. That is pretty much all that Utah has on BYU.

A little anecdote to illustrate the difference, at least in perception. A friend's son wants to play volleyball at Utah, but he hasn't been offered a scholarship, so he just applied via the normal application process (and then he'd walk-on). He was not accepted. To be fair, he does have pretty poor grades and test scores. But the reaction of pretty much everybody was "What?!?! He didn't get in? I've never heard of that." This friend group includes UU fans.
