When I had sick leave and vacation leave...
...it wasn't uncommon for me to take sick leave for a dental appointment in the morning and then just take the rest of the day off with plans to do something else.
If I was just going to the dentist and back to work, I'd normally flex my time and not use either vacation or sick leave.
Once I moved into the world of PTO without separate sick leave, it just depended on what else was going on.
