Best route from Provo to Phoenix

We are driving from Provo to Phoenix today. Which route would you recommend?

Hwy 89 thru Panguitch/Page/Flagstaff, or

I-15 thru Vegas / Kingman hwy 43

Google maps has the times as nearly identical. Anything we should be considering?

Vegas is an easier faster drive. Panguitch is a scenic drive.

No, going 89 is faster. It is faster on Google Maps and faster in real life.

89 route is 30 minutes to an hour faster depending on a couple of factors but it is still the fastest route.

Same. Especially if you typically drive a little over the limit. Prettier drive. Less monotonous. Faster. Less gas.

Buuuut… if you like passing and are still going to do ~15 over, it makes the time difference even more in 89’s favor.

On average you are going to hit traffic no matter which route you take.

Flagstaff drive is more interesting. Whenever I'd do a round trip I'd go one way out and the other way back.

I'd do the Page route, and go Flagstaff -> Sedona. It's pretty awesome.

Go to Panguitch, through Kanab, then to Page.

You can also avoid Page and Lake Powell and drive right past the northern rim of the Grand Canyon

Even if you come through Page you can see horseshoe bend, which is pretty cool. I haven’t been since they built up

I will only drive Hiway 89. More beautiful, less traffic. Cross over by Beaver.

It’s highway 20. Incidentally, it’s almost exactly 20 miles long.
