I saw tonysly. I've already talked to about 15 people mentioning him specifically. He really was trying hard to cooperate with police. Incidentally that poor guy on the ground was getting worked. If I were him, I'd probably have gotten upset enough, that I'd have gone ape, and tried to beat up the police officers. They were using far more force than necessary. As for tonysly, NO force should have been necessary. He was trying to cooperate and place his hands together behind his back.
Many of the fans were being classless. I particularly had a distaste for the group of grown men yelling from the concourses, "You suck, Ref!" Get off it. We won. Move on. No kid should have to see his dad completely out of control at a game like some of those guys were.
Many of the fans weren't being that bad, until the refs provoked them. The ref who went after tonysly was particularly beligerant. I though there was one more who should have been arrested as well.
The police, (I think they were BYU police) were terrible. If you think people are being incited to riot, the first course of action is to remove the cause for the instigation. They made NO effort to get the refs inside. I wasn't close enough to hear much of what was said, but I had a pretty good vantage point for the rest. After I saw the ref going after tonysly, I actually took a few steps closer, because it appeared he was trying to hit him, and had he landed one, I think all hades would have broken loose.
Too be honest, some of the fans trying to make their way out, did not appear to be that upset, until the refs came after them at which point it began to get out of control. Prior to that there was some yelling, but many people weren't even doing that.
