I know I may get flamed for this, but oh well, here it goes. I just found this site, and have been reading many different accounts of what happened with the refs following the game. I just wanted to post what really happened, well, as much as I can remember. I followed the refs a few yards yelling at them before they came off the field up the tunnel. Despite many accounts I never heard a single f bomb dropped by any of the BYU fans. Admittedly we were booing, yelling, and giving them our piece, but nothing more. A guy right next to me started swinging his water bottle while yelling at the first refs through. He did not throw his water bottle, that was made up somewhere along the way. Two refs yelled back at him and got right up in his face, the were very defensive and aggresive. Before bothering to see what really happened, two cops grabbed the poor man and threw him face first into the ground, with their knees on his back. The refs continued to yell and taunt the helpless man. I got pretty pissed off and began yelling at the refs, I said that they were the worst refs, it was the worst officiated game I have ever seen, and I told them to go watch the tapes and look at the pathetic PI calls they made along with a few others. When I said this the older, stockier ref put his hand up to hit me and started charging me. I didnt really know what was going on, but my wife said that fans were pulling me into the crowd to keep the ref away from me. He said "yah you better get him out of here or I'm gonna pop him one." Then he looked at me and said he was "gonna pummel" me. This is what really incited the student crowd. Two other refs at this time looked pretty scared and were just trying to get into their door. He then took a swing at me which I had no problem dodging, I was not going to fight this guy twice my age! Before I knew what was going on two cops had pulled me from the crowd, I guess I stood out with my bright red YOung jersey. I was so worried that they were going to throw me down next to the other man who was still pleading and telling them they were hurting him. I couldn't believe I was being arrested but I cooperated so they wouldn't use anymore excessive force. Well it didnt work. They took me over to the cement wall and threw me face first into it. That is not a good thing when your hands are being held behind your back, I have the busted lip and tongue to prove it. Then they proceeded to pull my arm up so high I swear they were trying to pull it out of the socket or something. These guys were on a major power trip. I then noticed that the same stupid ref was right in my face still yelling at me, he called all of us f-ing mormons. I looked up and fans were hanging over the edge above us booing the refs and yelling for them to let me go. Luckily before I was in cuffs for no reason, a few fans kept telling the cops that the refs were antagonizing me. The cop threw me around and said to "just get the hades out of here then." While we were leaving the same refs were still outside getting into it with other fans. My wife was relieved that we didnt have to make a trip to the station, but I still cant believe those refs! I know many of you will not believe that the refs came at us, but it happened, there were at least a hundred witnesses, the moron was trying to punch me! It was the same ref that was in Val Hale's face just moments before when he confronted them. Anyways please spare me the "bad example" comments, I know we should have just walked away. I would have if the refs hadnt run down the steps back at us. The only thing worse than the refs last night were the cops, hurting people for using their freedom of speech. Especially the poor guy who was face first in the ground for 10 minutes just for shaking his water bottle while talking. If anybody was there, you would remember me in the red Young jersey and BYU hat plastered against the concrete wall with two moron cops pushing my arms up behind me. That is about it, I didnt see a single punch landed, and the fans were mad because of the horrible behavior and comments of those two refs. The cops and the refs were the only ones that I even heard cuss at all. Just hoping to straighten out this story a bit.
