recently slowed with hiring. I don’t imagine the slow down will last long though.
I did my training through Utah State. USU has a very good flight program. I have also flown with plenty of guys who did there training through UVU. Their program is also top notch.
The airlines don’t currently require a four year degree. I encourage everyone I give advice to however to get one. It’s not needed now but that could change. Plus it gives you a fall-back in case you lose your medical.
It doesn’t have to be an aviation degree either.
There are flight academies that can get you through the flying with an accelerated program. Zero time to flight instructor in about 10 months. They are good at what they advertise. They are expensive though and you obviously don’t come away with a degree.
The benefit of going that route though would be getting on at an airline sooner. You can always finish your degree after employment.
With airlines everything is seniority based. Date of hire. The sooner you get hired the sooner your seniority grows. Quality of life gets better with seniority.
The military is a safe and affordable route. The only downside is that they own you for about 10 years.
