BYU's strategy can't be imitated very well.
Successful imitation requires similar resources, and most schools won't be able to do that.

Utah imitated BYU in hiring Alex Jensen and other schools are doing the same thing. It might work, but probably won't for 3 reasons.

1. Kevin Young was one of the best NBA coaches because he really is that good. Go ahead and hire an NBA assistant. He probably won't be as good as KY.
2. BYU is backing KY with NIL funding to get the right players. It doesn't matter how good a coach is if the right players won't come and stay.
3. Even if successful, NBA coaches in the college ranks may simply use that success to get back to the NBA. KY might do that someday, but given what he has said about his motivations for being at BYU it appears that he will stay (wife, family, faith, more balanced life). Most schools don't have the depth of meaning that BYU can provide, so the motivation for a top coach to come and stay will not be the same.

BYU is doing things right. Others can try to imitate, but there aren't many coaches at any level as good as KY, and most schools won't have the other resources to succeed.
