I don't know how else to take that quote. Can you identify anyone who thinks this quote means that BYU is the future of college basketball just for being BYU regardless of whether it's program continues its current NBA style approach to the game?
Lavell Edwards was the future of college football in the 1970's and early 80's when he developed a pass-heavy offense that eventually took over college football and morphed into the West Coast offense as NFL teams (including former coaches under Lavell) adapted the schemes at the pro level.
Whether an approach can be replicated or not doesn't diminish the point in any way. In fact, the more it is replicated the more the statement becomes true. Utah just hired a former pro assistant coach and a GM precisely mirroring BYU's approach. Other programs will follow as BYU's success grows, which is WHY people are saying BYU is the future.
