I'm a long-time Cougar fan but don't really relate to a lot about the Mormon church anymore. I enjoy a cold beverage and cigars are one of my hobbies. Sometimes I wish I could root for another school but BYU is in my blood. My undergrad and Masters are from different schools, but I still root through and through for BYU. I blame my dad and count the Saturdays at games with him of some of my favorite memories with him. Whoppers at Burger King before football games; that's Heaven. Today I live in the Upper Midwest and still follow the action as much as possible.
I've enjoyed reading this board for a couple of years and have considered officially joining several times. I guess this is the post that finally did it. The fact that the majority can complain about "F the Mormons" chants and then tolerate the derogatory "Karen" descriptor is what turns me off about BYU. I'm guessing that 80% of wives and daughters of members of this board can be termed as "Karen." Women we love. It's hard to complain about derogatory chants and then turn around and participate in it. It's a racist term created by racists to justify racist behavior. But, it is as ugly as any other racist descriptor. Speaking as someone who has a lot of non-Mormon friends, this sort of thing is what drives them most crazy about us and easy to attack.
I may get ostracized and booted off this board before I even began. But, if not, I hope to enjoy contributing more and rooting with other Cougar fans.
