A good ref says he is making a basketball play (splitting an aggressive trap)
and therefore the contact to the groin is presumptively accidental
Very dumb to presume such contact is non accidental

Incidental but not accidental is a distinction without a difference

You meant to strike out--just didn't mean to hit the guy where he got hit

Right, your first line describes an accident

You're still responsible under the law in my gun example.

Using your analogy, the defender stepped in front of the gun. Truth.

Correct. It works that way, too.

yep, the problem with the whole premise is that it was non-incidental

I think he's saying that by the wording of the rule, they were kinda hamstrung and had to call it

Agree to disagree. Blaming a poorly written rule (which it is) for tossing some

The refs had a chance to right a wrong they made earlier in the game with Mag's dumb technical they called earlier..

I think the call on the Wisconsin bench was the makeup for Mag.

Ah ok. I'm not really remembering that one but I'll take your word for it.

The problem is that it was "clearly accidental". So the whole they had no choice but to call a

I agree. The standard is absurd

It seems poorly written, but to me it was clearly accidental.

And yet far more examples of forcible contact to the head and neck are re not deemed to be targeting

JT Toppin was ejected from the Texas Tech-Houston game for the same reason.

The defender clearly knew the rule and got his junk in position

Let me help. It was clearly accidental. The standard is dumb, but it was clearly accidental. Play on. Ref got it wrong.

The rule was written for intentional nut shots like when a player swings his arm

Mar 24, 12:12pm
I'll bet that is why the rule was written.

Poorly written rule and consequence. Also, could have been deemed accidental,

Mar 24, 12:25pm
By this interpretation, nothing can be accidental

Mar 24, 12:42pm
I think that's why it's such a poorly written rule

It was interesting to read that Wisconsin had a player ejected earlier this...

That would explain the UW player sticking his groin out w/ his hands behind him.

Traore was hit in the face which should have been a flagrant 1. Our review guys missed that.
