We don’t. We have a system where arbitrary ranking decides access and seeding. You may have more wins than I do, but if
the committee thinks I’m “better” I’m in and you’re out. Or I’m given a more-favorable seeding.
Including conference champions gives a slight minority of those teams involved an objective pathway, but the majority are still placed by opinion.

No, there's not enough info. So that's why you look at other information, such as SOS, SOR, predictive metrics, etc.
