He’s a hard worker and a great, charismatic leader. He has a live arm, is athletic, and will lay everything on the line for a win. He’s capable of making difficult throws and great reads.
He’s a bit of an erratic passer, and I’m not sure how much better that’s going to get. I expect better but I’m not sure elite, consistent, dependable accuracy is in the cards.
That’s probably ok. Jake has enough plusses, and a bit of improvement should suffice. If the D and special teams perform at or above their 2024 levels, we can probably win IF, and it’s a big if, reckless inexcusable turnovers stop. Of course he’s gonna turn the ball over as every QB does. But the game changing, taking easy and critical points off the board, what-in-the-WHY-in-the…variety of turnovers just need to go away. Much of this is Jake, and some of it’s on Arod to protect him from himself.
If that version of Retzlaff can take the field for us next year, it’s probably the missing link between a good and great BYU team in 2025. Jake’s gonna have to win us some big games.
