For a good all around dry fly experience, but you can also do other styles
you want to go with a 5-wt, 9ft rod with a floating line. I fly fish a lot, I'm not a gear-head. I buy cheaper but still good stuff and wear it out until it's dead. I don't waste money of a $500 rod when I've found very good $100 rods on Amazon. But I do recommend getting a good fly line. One of the rods I bought my son (a Redington, which is a solid brand) from Costco came with the worst fly line ever, so I need to go get that switched out.

I also have a 3 wt, 7.5 ft rod for when I'm fishing small creeks with little room for casting. I take this rod when I backpack and only use dry flies on that. And an 8 wt, 9ft rod with a sink tip for lakes or fishing bigger species, but I only fish for trout mostly. I rarely use this rod.
