This doesn’t surprise me, but the champion of any given year should be based only on what they do and have done that
year.

So ranking, subsequent inclusion and playoff seeding shouldn’t be based on a prediction model that includes previous seasons, even if that is a good predictor for who will win.

Maybe that comes back to the argument crowning who is the “best” team vs who is “deserving” (wins).

I’m always about crowing a champion based only on winning the games that they need to win. Leave previous seasons and resultant bias out of it.

I don’t know what it is about this system that would rank Colorado 5 spots ahead of BYU this year, or puts a 4-loss Alabama at number 4, but I’m even if it predicts well, it’s not right for applying deserved rankings to teams in any given year.

As a system for predicting outcomes and making bets, great.
