I'd resist getting hung up on passing yds as a primary indicator of a Qb's value because great YAC receivers will always inflate passing yardage. Completion percentage, TD/INT ratio and 3rd down % are more accurate indicators.
Who wouldn't want Gabriel's lofty 73.2% comp, 28/6 td/int ratio, and 49.1% 3rd down efficiency over JR's 57.6% comp, 20/12, and 37.3% 3rd down efficiency?
In the two losses this year, the red zone INT at close of 1H and a 33% 3rd down efficiency were killers because byu couldn't run the ball (73 yds) ... vs ASU, run yards were also tough to come by (94) but the passing game was working and 3rd down efficiency was best of the year (70%) ... unfortunately, JR's second INT of the game at the ASU 29 yd line w/1:04 remaining effectively ended the game.
