preschool age kids about the game, the narrative of "that guy is the best player in college football and he even won the award for best college football player and he just lost to the BYU Cougars" is wayyy easier to explain than, "by beating the 3rd ranked team in the ACC, the Big 12 might marginally improve its reputation in the eyes of AP poll voters."
Same thing with like, "their coach used to be one of the best football players ever and now he dresses cool and his kids are on the team."
(Of course, the most preschool-friendly bowl is the Pop Tarts bowl, which the kids loved once we explained that the man in a Pop Tart costume wasn't actually killed and that his going in the toaster is just a joke.)
