Was overweight and out of shape when I did this race as my first triathlon a few years ago, so out of shape that after I finished my mom told me "you could probably get a trophy if you signed up for the Clydesdale category." Got a little offended and motivated, and over the last few years I lost a lot of weight, learned how to swim, got in great running shape, got a little better at cycling, bought as many aero gains as I could, sped up my transitions, and with all that work this year I got third place out of almost 2000 racers. I'd like to try shave a few more minutes off and see if I can win it, but it'll take a bit of luck (e.g., no pros show up), no injuries and really high volume for the next 6 months.
