There is no way to expand the playoff without hurting the regular season. A 24 team playoff would be awesome in a vacuum
but when a 4 loss team gets in, it REALLY hurts the regular season.
The tension/excitement of regular season games is materially altered if a team can get 4 losses and still get into the playoff.
I don't want to minimize the 12 game regular season in an effort to make the playoff a bit better (and I do think 20 or 24 isn't that much better than 12)
