The punters and teams are just too good. What you describe has likely happened at the high school level several times and we never knew it because it was high school. But the NFL? The coaches know the clock, know the rules, and they have punters that can boom it 50+ yards in the air.
Last night was the first made free kick in the NFL in nearly 50 years. It's not because NFL coaches didn't know the rule existed the last 50 years.
