Energy cost per mile is actually more expensive for me in California for most
EVs.

That's because PG&E charges effectively ~50 cents per KWh.

Meanwhile gas is about $4/gallon. So I can get 8KWh for that cost. Most small EVs that I've seen are like 3mi/KWh, so that's 24 miles.

IOW, for me in California my cost for a typical EV is about the same as a 24mpg car....

Granted if you live in a state where electricity costs are like 12 cents per KWh then the math is obviously very different. However even in those states it seems like fast charging stations that you would use on road trips are a similar cost to 50 cents per KWh.
