IMO he wasn’t dissembling. He didn’t contribute to AJ’s NIL. He contributes to BYU’s NIL. He was not asked to add anything for AJ. But the collective would not have given AJ what it did if it drained the collective’s money. So what he had already given was essential in getting AJ.
