BYU is also extremely high in 1st down conversion rate (not just 3rd down conversion rate). BYU plays aggressively (not fast pace), which leads to high conversion rate on 1st and 2nd down, but at times longer 3rd downs. BYU plays 3rd downs when not deep in their own territory to get reasonable 4th downs, which they convert at a crazy high rate.
Slow pace reduces injuries on O and D. BYU has had a relatively good year this year on injuries. Recruiting is improving. Better recruiting may allow the team to speed the pace with a deeper roster.
BYU had more turnovers Saturday against Houston, but TOs have generally been good for the year.
All of the above were better the first 8 games of the year, but good even including the recent games.
