I think it’s the opposite, they were too confident on that last drive. They

assumed they’d be able to easily score and run out the clock at the same time.

I get the logic of running the time down but getting conservative and running it 3 straight times cost them the game. Put them in a bad spot and the penalty absolutely killed them.
Also run a play at or beyond the sticks, not 3 yards short.
