BYU will be in if they finish 12-1. BYU is not behind any 2 loss teams and ahead
of several SEC, ACC, ND... 1 loss teams. People are inventing scenarios not based on actual actions by the committee (and I'm not just talking about this year). BYU with 1 loss will not be behind a 3 loss team based on everything the committee has done and said this year and over the last 20+ years, especially the stated minimal penalty for losing CCG. 3 loss teams unlikely to be in CCGs. Descent chance if BYU loses a game before CCG, loses in CCG and still makes the CFP at 11-2, because the committee will still rank them ahead of all 3 loss teams that were not in a CCG.

In the last 20+ years of CFP/ BCS rankings the only time BYU (even as an independent or MWC) has been ranked behind a team with 2 more losses was in 2000 when BYU played such weak opponents and 1 time when they were ranked behind 1 team 1 time/ 1 poll that had lost a CCG and had 2 more losses than BYU. BYU is now playing a P4 schedule ranked as a very middle of the P4 difficult schedule. The committee isn't going to all of the sudden change to rank BYU lower than they did as an independent or in the MWC.

Everyone talks about the committee giving SEC teams preferential treatment, but it isn't happening this year. BYU is ranked ahead of all SEC team, except Texas. Only 4 SEC teams are in the CFP currently and 4 B1G teams. There is no scenario where the B1G gets 5 teams in this year and B1G could easily get in only 3 teams. SEC might get in 5 if something strange happens, but likely requires B1G having only 3 in and/or ND falling out.
