If you haven't listened to any interviews with Kelly Poppinga and Greg Wrubell (Coordinators corner), then you'll want to do so. If you have, you already understand.
That man is a treasure. In fact I'd go so far to say that I wouldn't be able to decide who I'd want Holmoe to select as Kalani's replacement if it came down to a choice between him and Hill. I'm just super glad we have them both in their current roles. Brinks truck needs to take care of BOTH of them.
But specifically on Kelly, I was blown away when he talked about how they had specfically run the Kickoff blocking scheme on Utah because they saw that UU would be vulnerable to it in the same way Wyoming was.
Whaaaaaaat!? Have you ever heard a special teams coach talk like that? "Oh yeah, we know if everybody blocks this way, and our returner cuts that way, its to the house." Not once, but TWICE? The Utes even had it on film!! Then going out and getting EVERYONE on the team to fulfill their role precisely (watch the replay, the blocking is inspiring actually!)
Every interview he does he talks about things I didn't think could be predicted. But HE predicts them.
Also, when you realize Will Ferrin is here because of HIM--he invited him to follow from Boise, just light years beyond predecessors!
