You can actually ask her to count it off the counter quietly as to not give others a hint at how much money you'd be
Carrying out the door, on the other hand you could have pointed to the amount you wanted in the form of a cashier's check. Good as cash and less conspicuous

I withdrew 17k a couple of months ago to buy a used tractor and the lady counted it for me by hand at the counter
