Eddie Intervention Needed
As an 18 yr old, I got a ticket for 80 in a 75 zone.
It was right after the speed limit on Utah freeways had been increased to 75. I'm essentially going with the flow of traffic and was the lucky one to get pulled over. I guess I was definitely passing some cars - but I wasn't flying past all of the cars.

I followed some of the advice here - just go to court, the officer is unlikely to show up, they may show some leniency, etc.

Nope. Not for me. Cop showed up. Judge didn't care that I was only 5 over. Didn't question the accuracy of the speed gun - simply said unless I could prove otherwise, the speed gun is getting calibrated more frequently than my car's speedometer.

It was my second ticket as a teen - the first was 2 years earlier at age 16.

I paid the fine. And about 6 months later - when I was in the MTC - I got a letter from my parents telling me that I had just received a letter in the mail from the DMV telling me that my license was being suspended for 12 months due to the ticket. Luckily it was pretty easy to get it reinstated 2 years later when I got home.

Hope that helps.
