I have a 10 yr old that wants to start lifting weights. Is that too young?
I always heard 12-14 to start lifting. Just saw a couple articles saying 10-12 and the Mayo Clinic said 7-8.

My 10 yr old is very interested and keeps saying he can’t wait to start lifting. He’s a strong kid (I’d say stronger than I was at that age). We’ve been planning on waiting until 12+ but as he’s showing a ton of interest, I’d hate to push it off. I have him doing pushups, squats, crunches, planks, etc.

I also have an 8 yr old doing the same type of exercises. Not built like my 10 year old. Weaker than I was at that age.

We have a full gym in our garage: full squat rack/cage with cables as well, dumbbells, treadmill, bike, rower.

Any thoughts or experience with starting your kids with weight training?
