RE : "..deep dive into the very unreliable transitive wins argument.." Do people that do the transitive wins..
argument actually watch full games and analyze strengths and weaknesses of teams or do they do something lazy and basically say because X team team beat Y team we should beat that team?
Pretty sure that the transitive wins argument people are engaging in much more of the latter than the former.
