I've anecdotally noted that a surprising number of former high-level players in
both the pro and college ranks don't have any interest in following the sport as a fan or spectator.
I think for a lot of them it's a combination of burnout and knowing too much about how the sausage is made.

I would be miserable. Dedicating so much of your life to something that ultimately doesn’t matter. That would suck.
