Of course it takes both. I haven't spoken clearly enough if it was coming across that size, speed, hops, etc could be completely overcome by mental processing capability. Of course not, obviously.
What I mean is after reaching a certain high level of athleticism, the marginal advancement to world class historic greatness is more about capability.
Capability is connected to time horizon. And we get better at it with age. More gifted souls increase capability at a more accelerated rate. It's basically biological, like your skin changes as you get older.
Geniuses whose values drive them to greatness in athletics can be seen at a young age figuring what improvements they must make to make the high school team a couple of year ahead of time. It's rare for a twelve or 13 year old to have a two year time horizon. CEOs of giant corporations need a 20-50 year time horizon.
Anyway, we've gotten into a big subject that can take forever. But if you ignore the quality of expression and listen to the quality of ideas when watching interviews of the most gifted prospects, you will hear much higher level answers than the average 18 year old.
I've been at this for 35 years, but before that I recall being struct by the intellectual maturity of 20 year old Emmitt Smith, and Lew Alcindor, and KC Jones, and Wilt, Bill Russell, all of the great ones really.
My job was (still is in the investment world) to identify great leaders.
There is so much to discuss. Let's leave it at we agree pretty much.
