We might slightly disagree. I think the most sophisticated thinkers with the longest time horizon, assuming they are not saddled with pathological anxieties, achieve the highest levels in all sports, and all performing arts for that matter.
Such driven BB people also work harder at developing all necessary qualities, including speed, strength, knowledge, skill, team play, strategic options, and softer skills such as patience, aggressiveness, knowing opponents strengths and weaknesses, and more.
After some high level of athletic competence, it diminishes in importance compared to higher level mental processing capability. The "dumb athlete" is a myth and always has been so. Am not talking about education but the ability to handle complexity. Of course we have all known brilliant people who are messed up and can't get anywhere in life. So I am excluding those with debilitating pathology.
Anyway, we are a long way from proving any of this. I used to work with the Redskins in evaluating their potential top draft choices and feel sure about what I am saying here, though I could be wrong.
