It sounds like she moved for the job, and then had flooding in her old house for some unknown reason and had to rush back to deal with it. That's annoying for the employer, but the sort of thing that might happen with an interstate move. She didn't communicate her emergency very well, however. It would certainly be important to talk about that, but I don't know about firing her over this.
