that they are our recruiting rival. When they doing great it directly hurts BYU's ability to get kids from this state as well as LDS kids across the nation. If BYU can string together several seasons where it's obvious we are the better program our recruiting will receive a big boost (inversely theirs will take a big hit). When they win it hurts BYU, when they lose it helps BYU.
