win 1 against the Royals, and Mets win 2 against the Brewers (same math if DBacks/Braves win 2 and Mets win 3).

And then we head into the Monday doubleheader with the Mets at 89-71, the DBacks done at 89-73, and the Braves at 87-73. Both the Braves and Mets have the Tiebreaker over Arizona.

At that point the Mets are in as a road wildcard team with the same number of wins as the DBacks, going to either San Diego or Milwaukee - they probably don't care which opponent, but I think the Brewers is an easier matchup. If they agree, they'd just as soon lose twice to the Braves. But they certainly aren't going to pitch anybody or play anybody the day before the wildcard either way.

Though there would be some slight advantage to winning game one, which cancels game 2 for rest and travel purposes. But winning does add to their travel time (San Diego vs Milwaukee).

Meanwhile if the Braves win 2, they are in as the 5 seed.

And the DBacks sit helplessly watching the Mets scrubs face a very motivated Braves team.

The Padres know they could get the Braves playing a doubleheader, using up arms, and traveling the next day to San Diego, so they like this scenario, which might somewhat motivate them to win (or maybe even lose) to the DBacks this weekend.

Brewers get the advantage of playing a team who played 2 games the day before.

Dodgers and Phillies meanwhile are just getting rusty and overconfident watching it all. This assumes of course the Dodgers don't choke and get swept by the Rockies.
