In a vacuum, kalani is a below average coach because he fails to get the sum of the parts out of his teams if he doesn’t have good to great assistant coaches.
We had the second overall pick in Zach why Tyler Algier, a loaded offensive line and we couldn’t get over the hump. Same thing with Jaron, loaded wide receivers, Algier, couldn’t make it. We had both Taysom and Jamaal with a loaded defense, nothing.
My hot take is that kalani can’t get the sum of the parts out of his teams.
Bronco had lower ceilings because he wanted his team to be exclusively walk one and Rudy’s (exaggeration) but he would usually get the sum of the parts, particularly on defense.
If kalani had just gotten rid of lamb and tuiaki earlier, he would get much more credit, but his inability to identify and resolve the problem is also an indictment on his ability as a coach. Jaron’s last year and last season the offensive line was so abysmally bad.
I was talking to a former player and he told me to my face that the team quit half way through the season last year. That’s on the head coach.
He’s a good coach when he has good assistants, but he isn’t a great coach.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
