I get it. Defenses get fooled by play calls all the time. My favorite is a play action pass, the RB didn't get the hand off so now it's an obvious passing play only nobody decides it's their job to cover the RB who is an eligible WR.

It's one thing to get fooled, though, and it's quite another to have never had anybody assigned to the TE in the first place. I've seen TE's free release off the line and not once during the play has anybody on defense bothered to mark them as a receiver. It was a free release and he went straight into a passing route.
