Inconsistent his first two years (20/13 TD INT ratio in 2003 and 2004 combined play) and really only hit his stride by his third year of seeing significant reps.
And while Max had a solid sophomore year it was:
- after a full year in the system as an understudy to Beck
- stepping in behind a veteran, quality OL
- throwing to BYU's GOAT WR and GOAT TE with BYU's eventual all time leading rusher behind him
- benefiting from one of the better D's in program history that held Utah to 10 pts, TCU to 17, Arizona to 7 pts, and UCLA to 16 in the bowl game.
