Years. Good worker. Always shows up. He comes in at 8, does his job without saying much and goes home at 4:30 every day. He’s dependable and conscientious, but he’s not industrious at all. He’s never brought anything innovative to the table nor expressed interest in anything beyond his assigned work.

He’s upset with me because a manager position opened up and I didn’t ask him to apply. I don’t see him as a manager but if he applied I would have taken him seriously and asked him about what he would do as a manager.

He didn’t apply. He didn’t even express interest. He might leave. I’ll be sad to see him go but that doesn’t change my opinion.
