It’s not about cowering in fear. I live out east where yewt fans don’t exist.
It’s about re-establishing BYU as the best program in the state of Utah. I don’t think 2 extra wins helps BYU very much if Utah still is clearly better, which is what Scenario B presented with Utah beating BYU and going to the CCG.
But if BYU improves from 5 wins last year to 7 wins this season AND beats Utah, which keeps Utah out of the CCG, then BYU football suddenly has a strong case that we’re the #1 football program in the state. A 2 game winning streak over Utah would be the first time in the memory of current high school recruits, giving them strong a perception that BYU has surpassed Utah again.
